While recognizing the potential promise of accountable care organizations and their ability to reduce costs and improve quality, the Colorado Medical Society raised a number of concerns with the proposed rules including its complexity, upfront costs necessary to participate, anti-trust, and deficiencies in the proposed shared savings models. Read the full letter and CMS' recommendations to change the proposed rule by clicking here.

2.  CALL FOR NOMINATIONS for CMS leadership positions

As it prepares for the upcoming annual meeting in September, the Colorado Medical Society has placed a call for nominations for many different CMS leadership positions including President-elect, Speaker and Vice-Speaker of the House of Delegates and AMA Delegate and Alternate Delegates.

4. DORA notifies CMS of delay in resident physician access to PDMP

The Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) has notified CMS that there will be a delay concerning resident physicians having access to the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) as directed in the recently passed SB 192. The Act is effective 7/1/11 but the vendor has informed DORA that resident physicians with an active training license will likely not have access until 8/15/11. CMS will monitor the issue and inform members if there will be any further delays.
